For the upper eyelids, our surgical procedure involves trimming along the fold of the eyelids to remove excess skin, eyelid muscle and fat. In some cases with upper eyelid ptosis (which is classified as a medical condition in which the upper eyelid droops over the eye), we tighten the levator muscles to lift up the eyelid more. We then stitch the fold together to close the incision. For the lower lid, we make a cut on the skin just below the lashes in your eye’s natural crease or inside the lower eyelid. We remove the excess skin, reposition the fat, and the incision is stitched closed.
Another form of double eyelid surgery procedure that can be done is known as the ‘non-incisional’ or ‘stitch’ method. This is an aesthetic procedure that is popularly known as the scarless double eyelid surgery in Singapore. In this scarless double eyelid procedure, the surgeon carefully first examines the eyelid area and makes markings to strategically plan where the stitches will be made. It will be good to use ice packs on your eyes for 10 minutes, every hour, on the night of the double eyelid surgery. The following day, use ice packs on your eyes four to five times throughout the day. Gently lubricate your eyelids with saline and use prescribed eyedrops or ointments. Bruising and swelling generally subside in 10 to 14 days while scars from the surgical cuts may take months to fade.
