What is PicoSure Laser Treatment?
LASER stands for “Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation”. The PicoSure Laser uses an Alexandrite system that delivers laser energy in the 755-nm wavelength and is suitable for the treatment of benign pigmented lesions, acne scars, skin tightening, toning and treatment of unwanted tattoos.
Who needs it?
People with:
- Benign pigmented lesions
- Melasma
- Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH)
- Hori’s nevus
- Nevus of Ota
- Acne Scars
- Age Spots
- Sun Spots
- Unwanted Tattoos
It is also used for:
- Reduction of pore sizes
- Facial skin tightening and toning
How is it done?
Clinical examination of the skin is first done to diagnose the problem. Following that, numbing cream is then applied to the face or areas to be treated. After the skin is sufficiently numbed, laser treatment is administered. The laser energy is absorbed by the chromophore in the pigmented lesions leading to the breakdown of pigment into smaller fragments; thus allowing the body’s own immune system to remove the pigments.
Depending on the diagnosis, a few visits may be needed to achieve optimal results.
PicoSure Laser treatment has minimal downtime with slight to moderate redness of the face for 24 hours or less.
Post treatment care
Post laser treatment, the face will feel warm and a cooling facial mask will be applied to soothe and cool the skin. Sunblock can be applied to the face post treatment. The patient should avoid the sun to prevent hyperpigmentation.
