Botulinum Toxin Injection (Botox)

Botulinum toxin injection is a non-surgical procedure that serves to relax muscles by inhibiting muscular contractions. It has several cosmetic and therapeutic effects.  Besides working by paralysing the muscles so they can’t activate and pull the skin on (which causes the wrinkles), it can also help patients with bruxism (clenching or grinding) as well as prevent hyperhidrosis (over sweating or sweating at inappropriate situations). Botulinum toxin is a neurotoxic protein secreted by the motile bacterium Clostridium botulinum and exist in many forms, but the one that is used for cosmetic purposes is known as type A. It also contains sodium chloride and human albumin. It comes in powder form and is then diluted with saline for injection.
