Simultaneous orthognathic surgery and rhinoplasty as its name suggest refers to the concurrent correction of jaw deformities and nasal deformities via surgery. Some advantages include:

  • Single anaesthesia, surgical procedure and postoperative recovery period
  • Concurrent correction of nasal and jaw deformities
  • Improvement to the patient’s appearance, symmetry and profile
  • Improved airway for patients with nasal obstructions

Who needs it?

Simultaneous Orthognathic Surgery & Rhinoplasty

Patients who have:

  • Patients who have both nasal and jaw deformities. For example, a patient with a deviated facial skeleton and deviated nose will benefit from concurrent jaw and nasal correction.
  • Other patients with an already wide and upturned nose with skeletal anomalies can have them corrected at the same time. This can be done by sculpturing the nasal tip to give it more definition and bring it to a more “downward position” to prevent excessive nostril show after the corrective jaw surgeries.
Simultaneous rhinoplasty can also be performed to correct anticipated unwanted effects of the maxillary (upper jaw) surgery. Sometimes, moving the upper jaw forwards during orthognathic surgery can cause nasal widening or upward tilting of the nose which will increase nostril show. Simultaneous rhinoplasty can correct that side effect
 

How is it done?

If the double eyelid surgery is done for cosmetic reasons, we start off with a consultation appointment to get to know you and what you would like for the best possible outcome.

Simultaneous orthognathic surgery and rhinoplasty is performed under general anaesthesia. Surgery for the jaws is always performed first followed by nasal surgery.

Postoperative Care

Initially, intranasal dressings will be placed in the nasal airway for one to two days. Nasal splint and tapes will also be placed on the nose. Antibiotics, analgesics, and a mouth wash will be prescribed. You will also be placed on a special liquid diet for at least 2 weeks. Swelling and bruising are normal consequences of the surgery.
